This is the latest addition to David’s growing collection of Maritime songs. What makes this project different from his last Maritime CD is there is a real mix of traditional and contemporary songs. There are also two commissioned works that David has written commemorating the 150th anniversary of the construction of two Boston built Clipper Ships. David is especially excited about the new collaboration with Texas-based ‘cellist, Max Dyer. And of course the continued partnership with Kent Allyn and David Surette. Special appearance by the CedarHouse Boys is a rather inviting addition. All of these songs tell a story about a time in history to which David feels a direct connection. As a Maritime educator performing in schools David is constantly looking for “gems” that bring the history to life. Here is just a sampling. I hope you enjoy it. A collection of songs, all done in a single take, that have been favorites on TikTok and heavily requested. The entire “album” consists of songs that I have never sung before Jan. 2021 when I joined TikTok while Sea Chanteys were exploding on the app. There are a few Viking songs which were lots of fun to sing. The album title is a vague reference to TikTok because I just couldn’t help myself.
Proudly introducing his daughter, Linnea, David presents some of his favorite songs accompanied by his favorite musicians. Stepping out from under his Maritime hat these songs cover a wide span of topics, from the Clydesdale horses to the coal mines of Scotland; from the struggling fishermen to a hopeful song of Spring; and a new instrumental arrangement of Spered Holvedel. And a few “chestnuts” including Stephen Foster’s Hard Times and a tribute to John Langstaff, Cecil Sharp’s collected version of John Barleycorn.

After many requests to record this Sea Chantey here it is with the cast and crew of the 2014 Revels recorded at Sanders Theater between shows. The original YouTube video of 2010, as of October, 2020, has reached 4,000,000 hits. It’s the cat video of Sea Chanteys. Thanks for supporting independent artists!!
