This is the latest addition to David’s growing collection of Maritime songs. What makes this project different from his last Maritime CD is there is a real mix of traditional and contemporary songs. There are also two commissioned works that David has written commemorating the 150th anniversary of the construction of two Boston built Clipper Ships. David is especially excited about the new collaboration with Texas-based ‘cellist, Max Dyer. And of course the continued partnership with Kent Allyn and David Surette. Special appearance by the CedarHouse Boys is a rather inviting addition. All of these songs tell a story about a time in history to which David feels a direct connection. As a Maritime educator performing in schools David is constantly looking for “gems” that bring the history to life. Here is just a sampling. I hope you enjoy it. Flight of Time demonstrates David’s musical dexterity through vocal and instrumental performances and arrangements. With carefully selected musicians to support him, this cd includes traditional and contemporary ballads, instrumental and vocal pieces from Brittainy and the French and Spanish Renaissance, and three beautiful waltzs. David’s array of instruments include the full range of recorders, tenor-treble and baritone concertinas, bombardes, gemshorn, penny whistles(including the haunting low D whistle), and several “early wind” instruments. With the addition of piano, bouzouki mandolin, guitar, percussion, and ‘cello, this recording moves effortlessly from one genre to another, with intricate arrangements and obvious attention to detail.

This is the bonus track to the Last Trip Home CD. I use to sing this song to my daughter, Linnea, when she was much younger. Then we started to sing it together in performances and it was very well received so here it is as her recording debut. Linnea is also featured on three more songs on the Last Trip Home recording.
Proudly introducing his daughter, Linnea, David presents some of his favorite songs accompanied by his favorite musicians. Stepping out from under his Maritime hat these songs cover a wide span of topics, from the Clydesdale horses to the coal mines of Scotland; from the struggling fishermen to a hopeful song of Spring; and a new instrumental arrangement of Spered Holvedel. And a few “chestnuts” including Stephen Foster’s Hard Times and a tribute to John Langstaff, Cecil Sharp’s collected version of John Barleycorn.
